An attempt to evade police early Thursday morning didn't pan out for a young man suspected of driving while impaired.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary tried to stop the man's car at the Mount Pearl end of Blackmarsh Road.
Instead of pulling over, though, he sped away.
He didn't get far, however, as he crashed into a snowbank and then struck a utility pole, about a kilometre away.
The driver ran away from the crash scene, but officers and a police dog tracked him down in the area of Frecker Drive.
Police took the man, 25, into custody. He faces charges that include flight from police, dangerous driving and refusing a breathalyzer.
The RNC said they found open liquor in the vehicle.
