Police and officials with Occupational Health and Safety are investigating a fatal accident in downtown St. John's Thursday.

It happened shortly before 4 p.m. at the corner of Springdale and Water Streets, at a construction site where Fortis is building a new office tower.

The 61-year-old victim fell about 80 feet from the top of the structure.

His name has not been released.
