Chad Pearce gets 5 year sentence for break-ins
A man who committed a string of break and enters in the St. John's area was sentenced to five years in prison in provincial court on Friday.
William Chad Pearce, 30, pleaded guilty to 11 break and enters earlier this year.
Judge Lois Skanes said a two-year sentence for each of the break-ins would be unduly harsh and handed down a sentence of five years.
Michael Ralph, Pearce's lawyer, was aiming for a three-year sentence less time served.
According to Ralph, his client wanted to receive a federal sentence so he can access programs to help him with a drug problem.
From one home, Pearce stole more that $5,000 in collectible coins that have not been recovered.
