Central Newfoundland bank says thank you
A bank in Springdale wants to thank the volunteer fire departments who fought a powerful fire in January that destroyed one of its branches.
The Bank of Montreal is donating $5,000 to each of the departments, to recognize their efforts on Jan. 10.
All the buildings in the connected commercial strip were incinerated, including the BMO branch, a Home Hardware store and a warehouse.
While the blaze destroyed the structure, bank officials are praising the efforts of the Springdale and King's Point volunteer firefighters.
Bank officials said the volunteers showed great courage and skill, and noted that no one was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile BMO says it's looking for a site to rebuild. Clients are currently getting service from a banking trailer in Springdale.
