Home ice proved to be no great advantage for the Clarenville Caribous this weekend, as the Eastlink CeeBee Stars opened the Herder hockey finals with back-to-back wins.
The CeeBees defeated the Caribous 4-3 on Saturday night at the Clarenville Event Centre, and took a second victory on Sunday afternoon with a 5-1 result.
Chris Sparkes lead the CeeBees with two goals in Sunday's game. Mark Yetman made 34 saves for the winning team, while Jason Churchill took the loss.
The Caribous are attempting to win their second consecutive Herder Memorial Trophy, the top prize in senior men's hockey in Newfoundland and Labrador, and their fourth win in the last five series.
The CeeBees are looking for their first Herder victory since 2008.
The series moves to S.W. Moores Memorial Stadium in Harbour Grace this coming weekend.
