Canadian women win gold in ball hockey championships

The Canadian women's team won their final game with 2-0 victory over Slovakia, taking home the gold medal in the 2013 World Ball Hockey Championships on Sunday. The men's team took home the bronze medal with 7-3.

The Canadian women's team won their final game with 2-0 victory over Slovakia, taking home the gold medal in the 2013 World Ball Hockey Championships on Sunday in St. John's.

Dawn Tulk, from Deer Lake, scored both goals for the Canadian team.

The men's team took on Portugal in the bronze medal game, winning the match 7-3.

Teams played a series of games at the Jack Byrne arena in Torbay and the Mount Pearl Glacier throughout the week leading up to the playoffs.

Fans have been filling up the seats at both arenas all week, buying tickets at the door for the chance to see world-calibre play.

More than 700 players, coaches and staff from Asia, the Caribbean, Europe and North America participated.

The championships are held every two years in locations around the world.
