Voters in the Conception Bay North district of Carbonear-Harbour Grace will elect a new MHA on Nov. 26, Premier Kathy Dunderdale has announced.

The byelection will fill a vacancy created when former finance minister Jerome Kennedy resigned from politics in early October.

The byelection will be a test not only of Dunderdale's Progressive Conservatives, but also of the next leader of Newfoundland and Labrador's Liberal party.

Liberals will finish a nine-day voting period for the new leader on Nov. 17.

Jack Harrington, who had worked as an aide to Kennedy, will represent the PCs in the byelection.

Carbonear Mayor Sam Slade was acclaimed as the Liberal candidate two weeks ago.

The NDP has not yet selected a candidate.
