Brass knuckles, other illegal weapons seized on Burin Peninsula
Two people from the Burin Peninsula are facing weapons-related and drug charges following a seizure that took place this week in Fortune.
On Wednesday, the RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the town. The investigation began with an allegation that an individual was in possession of a hand gun. The same person was alleged to have been involved in the selling of illegal drugs.
Police located and seized numerous guns and other weapons during their search.
Samurai swords, a baton, pepper spray, knives and starter pistols were discovered. Brass knuckles, a throwing star and a taser, which are illegal weapons, were also found and seized.
A quantity of marijuana, a white powder substance believed to be cocaine, and various other drug paraphernalia were identified and seized.
A 31-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman from the Fortune area have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. The man has also been charged with possession of anabolic steroids.
Both have been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with conspiracy to traffic in cocaine, and possession of prohibited weapons.
Police said further charges are pending in relation to the guns and ammunition clips that were seized.
Both individuals appeared in provincial court on Thursday and were released on undertakings. Their next court date is June 4.
