Bonavista cyclist injured as driver charged with impaired
A woman from Bonavista will appear in court in the new year on impaired driving charges, after a cyclist was struck on a main road in the town.
RCMP said the a woman, 59, was driving a sport utility vehicle on Church Road when she struck a man on a bicycle around 9 p.m. on Monday night.
The woman was arrested at the scene. She will appear in provincial court in Clarenville on charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and failing to provide a breath sample.
She was released from custody.
The bicyclist, 44, who is also a resident of Bonavista, is recovering from injuries at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's. Police said his life is not believed to be in jeopardy.
