The body of well-known Newfoundland writer, historian and teacher Patrick O'Flaherty, 78, was found Saturday night by the RCMP Underwater Recovery Unit.

O'Flaherty reportedly went missing Wednesday afternoon after going under water while swimming with three other adults at Barbour's Pond near Keels. 

RCMP were called 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, and searched for O'Flaherty until he was found 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The Discovery Trail Ground Search and Rescue Team helped with the search.

Now the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating his death, with the assistance of the Bonavista RCMP detachment.
