The St. John's Board of Trade is calling for lower premiums for workers' compensation.

Denis Mahoney, chair of the board of trade, said the number of workplace injuries in Newfoundland and Labrador has dropped by half since 2005, but rates have not reflected that decrease.

Mahoney also said employers have been paying higher rates for workers' compensation compared to other provinces.

The board made its presentation Monday at the Workers' Compensation statutory review.
