The MV Blue Puttees will return back to the North Sydney and Port aux Basques run sooner than expected.

Marine Atlantic said on Monday that repair work to the ferry was successfully completed over the weekend.

The vessel will depart from Halifax Monday afternoon and return to North Sydney.

Marine Atlantic said it anticipates the vessel will be back on the run Tuesday evening.

The MV Atlantic Vision will resume its Argentia sailing schedule on Wednesday.

Marine Atlantic said that customers whose original bookings were rerouted though Port aux Basques will be contacted and given the option of rebooking to the Argentia serivce.

Previously affected customers who choose to take the Argentia service will see no increase in their fare and will continue to pay the Port aux Basques-North Sydney rate.

Crash under investigation

The Blue Puttees was taken off the run July 31 after it ran aground in Port aux Basques as it was departing for North Sydney.

Early inspections of the vessel showed that mechanical problems weren't to blame for the vessel running into the Port aux Basques dock and a building.

Marine Atlantic said in early August that it didn't expect the vessel to return until the end of August.

The Transportation Safety Board has not released the cause of the crash.

There were 398 passengers and 91 crew members aboard. No injuries were reported.
