Berrypicker recovering after 6-day ordeal
'It was good to see him alive,' son says
A 74-year-old berrypicker who many feared was dead in central Newfoundland is one step closer to returning home.
St. John's resident Chesley Sweetapple had been missing for six days in the Millertown area when he was found Friday.
He was flown to hospital in Corner Brook after searchers found him disoriented in the woods.
His son Dave went to pick up his father’s truck and belongings on Monday, before visiting him at the intensive care unit at Western Memorial Regional Hospital.
"It was really great to see him alive. I really didn't think it was going to happen," Dave Sweetapple said.
"I thought he was gone for good, but he's got a long road to recovery but I think he's on the mend."
Sweetapple expects his father to make a full recovery.
