Newfoundland singer Sherry Ryan released a new Christmas single earlier in December, and CBC's Todd O'Brien was on set for a behind-the-scenes look at the festive affair.

The song, I'll Come First This Christmas, is a duet with Ryan and Mick Davis about a couple split up around the holiday season that both refuse to sit at home, but instead decide to venture out into downtown St. John's.

Ryan said the song just came naturally to her.

"It just popped in my head. I was just lying in bed thinking, and that's the first lyric in the song," she said.

"I don't even remember writing it. It was just one of those situations where I didn't have to work on it until we turned it into a duet."

The video, directed by Roger Maunder, takes viewers on a journey to spots all around St. John's.

According to Ryan, she was surprised at how many people showed up to help out at the final shoot at Erin's Pub on Water Street.

"I got a great turn out, and I got a great amount of people working with me today," she said.

"People showed up today that I didn't even know, and they said, 'I'm here to help decorate.'"
