A cash-strapped community theatre company is back staging Shakespeare after a successful appeal for help.
The 20th season of Shakespeare By the Sea is now underway in St. John's.
Director Nicole Rousseau said there were times it looked like the summer season wasn’t going to happen, because the group was short of cash.
"It certainly was difficult at times to see a way that we were going to be able to get all the funding together," Rousseau said.
But former thespians and fans came through when the company asked for help.
"We were asking alumni, friends and supporters to donate $20 towards the 20th season," Rousseau said.
The group reached its fundraising goal of $5,000. "So that's a lot of twenties, and a lot of people to thank," she said.
