A resident of Corner Brook was injured during a weekend break-in that involve a small axe and someone he knew, police said.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said someone carrying an axe broke into a home on Pratt Street around 3 a.m. on Sunday.
Police said the man assaulted a man who was living in the home, but was overpowered and then forced outside. The resident's injuries were minor.
Police said the suspect and the people inside knew each other.
Before fleeing the scene, the suspect lit the resident's vehicle on fire, the RNC said. The resident put the fire out before firefighters arrived on the scene.
A 20-year-old man who was tracked down at a home on Bugden Place unsuccessfully tried to flee from police.
The suspect faces charges that include assault, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and break and entry. He also is accused of breaching a court order.
