Police in Happy Valley-Goose Bay are searching for a man who held up a local business in the town on Saturday night.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., RCMP responded to the robbery at the Labrador Spice Mini Mart on Markland Road.

Police said the suspect was dressed in snowmobile clothing and wore a snowmobile helmet.

He then produced an axe and demanded money from the lone clerk on duty. The man fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

RCMP has sought the public's assistance in identifying the suspect.

The man is described as being approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a slim build. He was wearing black ski pants, a black snowmobile-style jacket, an FXR camouflage helmet with tinted goggles and hiker-style footwear.

The clerk was not injured during the robbery.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or who may have any information about the robbery is asked to contact the Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
