ATV driver charged after man falls over cliff in Pouch Cove

A man has been charged under the All-Terrain Act, following an unusual ATV accident Saturday night in Pouch Cove.

A man was charged following an unusual all-terrain vehicle accident Saturday night in Pouch Cove behind the town's post office.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said around 7:30 p.m. police and emergency crews responded to the accident where a man had reportedly gone over a cliff.

Unconfirmed sources told CBC News that several people were riding on an ATV when the machine hit something.

The collision caused the individuals to fall off the machine, with a man rolling over the cliff.

The RNC said the St. John's Fire Department High-Angle Rescue Unit was called in to assist the Pouch Cove Fire Department, who were able to rescue the man.

He was taken to hospital with injuries.

Police said the operator of the ATV faces charges under the All-Terrain Act, as well as charges including driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle.

The ATV was impounded and the police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
