Arson suspected in Natuashish band council office fire

A Friday morning fire at the Mushuau Innu First Nation band council office in Natuashish has been extinguished, according to the RCMP.

A Friday morning fire at the Mushuau Innu First Nation band council office in Natuashish, Labrador appears to be a case of arson, police say.

RCMP say the fire was likely intentionally set on the outside wall of the office around 7:30 a.m.

One of the band employees put out the flames with an extinguisher from inside the building.

While the quick work prevented major damage, some minimal damage was done to one of the building's exterior walls.

The office will be closed for the remainder of the day, and no injuries were reported.

RCMP officers arrived at the scene after the fire was out and are investigating.
