Police in St. John's think an arsonist may have set the fire that caused extensive damage at a vacant house in the Mundy Pond neighbourhood late Tuesday night.

Firefighters and police were called to Blackler Avenue around 11:30 p.m. that night to find the abandoned house in full flame.

No one had been living there for some time.

"The cause of the fire is considered suspicious in nature and is still under investigation," the RNC said in a statement.

No one was hurt during the fire.
