St. John's man charged after weekend assault on The Boulevard

A 36-year-old St. John's man has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon after a violent weekend attack on The Boulevard, near Quidi Vidi Lake.

'Does not appear to be a random act of violence,' say police

A 36-year-old St. John's man has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon after a violent weekend attack.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said in a news release the accused will appear in provincial court Tuesday.

Paramedics who responded to a report of assault on The Boulevard, near Quidi Vidi Lake, around 1 a.m. Sunday found a man, 42, with serious injuries.

Police said the man has been released from hospital, but will require further medical treatment.

Reports to CBC indicated the attack happened in or near the Royal Canadian Legion.

The suspect, who had left the scene, was arrested Monday.

According to the RNC, the accused and the victim knew each other and "this does not appear to be a random act of violence."
