Police are searching for the thief responsible for a robbery that took place in the east end of St. John's Thursday — which happened in broad daylight.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said a masked man walked into Marie's Mini-Mart on Stavanger Drive around 2 p.m., demanding cash and cigarettes.

It's believed he then fled in a green-coloured sedan, heading east. Constabulary patrol officers and the K-9 unit responded, but were unable to track the thief.

Police said the man is described as six feet tall and 185 pounds. He was wearing a long-sleeved black and white checkered shirt, jeans and black gloves.

The man's face was covered by a black ski mask that was worn backward, with eyes cut into the fabric.
