Alleged assault in west end St. John's sparks big police response
There was a heavy police presence in the west end of St. John's Wednesday afternoon, as RNC officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon around 2:40 p.m.
Residents of the area said eight or nine police cars arrived outside a building on Forbes Street just before 3 p.m.
Residents said some officers carried assault rifles, and reported that police went into a building that houses multiple businesses.
Witnesses say officers escorted one person out of the building and put them in a police vehicle.
Police said no one was injured in the incident.
Despite no arrests having been made as of 6 p.m., police did say the victim of the alleged assault and the suspect knew each other.
RNC cordoned off the area, blocking roads and two nearby homes, as officers determined whether there was a public risk.
- A previous version of this story posted Wednesday stated an eyewitness saw police go into a building on Forbes Street that housed multiple businesses, including a massage parlour. However, the RNC clarified Thursday the building had nothing to do with the investigation.Feb 25, 2016 1:19 PM NT
