The province is getting a new private addictions treatment centre next year.

Serenity on the Rock will open in Northern Arm in central Newfoundland in early January.

The centre is owned by a psychologist from Alberta, who runs a similar treatment facility south of Edmonton.

Sherri Skeans, the owner's business partner at the Northern Arm site, said the centre will be able to treat many people.

"It will help any individuals who are suffering with addictions, from any type of addiction -- alcohol, drug, gambling, sex, anything," she said.

Serenity on the Rock, a former bed and breakfast, will have 12 private rooms. It will cost about $15,000 for a six-week treatment.

"We would assume that many people from Newfoundland would want to come and get their treatment here locally, as opposed to having to go away for it," said Skeans.

Skeans said in addition to local clientele, they're also expecting to treat people from all over the country.

The Alberta site boasts a 65 per cent success rate.
