Investigators are now trying to figure out the cause of Thursday night's fire in an apartment in Bishop's Falls. (CBC)

A woman is in hospital and five other people are out of their apartments, after a small fire in Bishop's Falls.

The fire broke out on Thursday night in an apartment in a four-unit building on the western end of Main St.

Firefighters kept the fire confined to the kitchen, but officials said there was a lot of smoke and water damage to the entire building.

The fire damage is easily seen from the street, with scorch marks along the siding and windows that are either open or broken.

Officials said injuries suffered by the woman taken to hospital were not related to the fire.

The Red Cross has been assisting the six with emergency purchases of clothing, food and personal items. Since the power was disconnected from the units, four adults and two young people have not been able to return to their apartments.

Investigators are now trying to figure out the cause of the fire.
