The man who grabbed a teenage girl on a Corner Brook trail last summer was sentenced to three years in jail on Wednesday.

Jonathan Kelly, 29, pleaded guilty to robbery and theft charges, as well as to two breaches of probation.

Kelly tried to drag the 16-year-old girl into the woods along the Corner Brook stream trail on the afternoon of July 24, 2012. When her screams brought help, Kelly fled from the scene.

DNA evidence from the area led police to Kelly and he was charged last November.

The judge gave him credit for the 78 days he has already spent in jail.
