$23M Harbour Grace sports complex now 2 years behind
Town councillors in Harbour Grace are growing impatient with how long it's taking to approve a new $23-million sports complex.
Deputy Mayor Sonia Williams said it's time to get the project moving. The new facility in Harbour Grace will house a recreation complex and new town offices.
Williams said both the existing town hall and the S.W. Moores Stadium have seen better days.
The current sports complex proposal is already a scaled-down version of an earlier one, which called for twin rinks. However, the Harbour Grace council made a decision last fall to proceed more modestly with one rink, with the option of adding on in the future.
"It's going to be a positive thing. You know, spin-offs alone from this facility, who knows where it's going to go. And we want to see things move," Williams told CBC News.
Government insists it remains committed to the project and is reviewing the town's financial affairs. A decision will be made by the end of May.
