The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary confiscated two cars over the weekend when they halted unlicensed drivers who had already racked up hefty outstanding fines.
On Saturday morning, the RNC stopped a man, 41, who was driving in the Ropewalk Lane area of St. John's.
His vehicle was impounded, and he was told to appear in court on tickets of operating a vehicle without a licence, driving without insurance and failing to transfer the ownership of a vehicle.
The driver had already owed $9,553 in fines by that time.
On Sunday, police stopped a vehicle on Old Placentia Road in Mount Pearl.
The driver, 27, was taken into custody and the vehicle was impounded. Police said the driver was suspended from driving and already owed more than $22,000 in fines.
