2 dead in separate accidents on Newfoundland highways
The RCMP says two people are dead, as a result of separate traffic accidents that occurred Friday afternoon on the Trans-Canada Highway in Newfoundland.
At 4:45 p.m., an 86-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the TCH near Hotel Gander.
Police said when emergency responders arrived at the scene, they discovered the man was deceased.
The victim's name will not be released at this time.
The driver and passenger were not injured.
Meanwhile, a single-vehicle collision near St. Jude's has claimed the life of one of four people who were travelling on the TCH in a sedan.
The accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. Friday.
RCMP said a male passenger in the back seat was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other three people were taken to Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The name of the deceased will not be released at this time.
It's not known if weather was a contributing factor in either accident.
