One person died and another was taken to hospital Saturday afternoon after a fire broke out at a home on McKay Street in St. John's.
Firefighters responded to a call about a possible fire around 1:30 p.m.
When crews arrived at the scene, there was one person in the middle of the road, and another person still inside the home.
The person inside the house died in the blaze, while the other was taken to hospital and is believed to be in stable condition.
Firefighters at the scene said the fire was "intense," with major damage to the home.
The neighbouring homes received only minor smoke damage.
Crews were still working to ensure the blaze had died at around 3 p.m.
Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
