If Ontario drivers accumulate 15 demerit points, they lose their licence to drive in Ontario. But Ontario's paramedics lose their job if they accumulate just six demerit points.

Paramedics represented by OPSEU protested the stringent new rules at Queen's Park. Six have already lost their jobs, including one 30-year veteran. Lorne Hart was fired after receiving two speeding tickets while he was off duty.

"You've got a job one day. You've never had a problem, you've been a good employee over the years and you think you've done a lot for the company. Then one day you're just out of a job. It's a pretty frightening thing actually," says Hart.

The health minister says the rules are designed to protect the public's safety.
