Woman's body discovered in ditch north of Fredericton
Death considered suspicious, RCMP say
Oromocto RCMP are investigating the discovery of a woman's body in a ditch along Killarney Road, just north of Fredericton, on Tuesday.
Police have not yet been able to determine the cause of death, but it is considered suspicious, confirmed Cpl. Chantal Farrah.
The woman is believed to be in her 20s, but her identity has not yet been determined, Farrah said.
She could not say whether there were any visible signs of trauma or how the woman was clothed.
Killarney Road was expected to be closed for several hours between civic addresses 190 and 216 while the RCMP's major crime unit continued to investigate, said Farrah.
There are no homes along that stretch, she said.
"Investigators are … combing the area for any evidence and any clues that could assist us in determining what happened to this lady."
Police are also urging anyone who was in the area on Monday, or early Tuesday and may have seen something to contact them.
"As in any investigation, we rather have more information come to us and our investigators have more to work with and then they can determine if that is linked or not," said Farrah.
The woman's body was found by a passerby shortly before 2 p.m., Farrah said.
It's unclear how long the woman's body had been there, she said.
