A Moncton woman in a motorized wheelchair was struck and killed while crossing Millennium Boulevard on Monday night.

The 76-year-old woman was crossing at the intersection of Russ Howard Drive and Grand Trunk Street shortly after 7 p.m. when she was hit by a minivan, said RCMP Const. Damien Thériault.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

The man who was driving the minivan, and a woman who was with the victim where not physically injured, Thériault said.

The circumstances of the collision are still under investigation, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor, he said.

It's possible glare from the sun may have been a factor, Thériault said.

RCMP will not be releasing the victim's name until next of kin have been notified.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene.
