A woman in a motorized wheelchair was hit by a car Sunday afternoon in Fredericton.

Fredericton police say a middle-aged woman in the wheelchair was taken to hospital.

"We believe the injuries are not life threatening at this time, but they are serious and she remains hospitalized. The driver did remain on the scene and the driver was hospitalized as well for shock related issues," said Cpl. Randy Reilly.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. AT on Smythe Street across from the Exhibition Grounds.

"At this time we really don't have any conclusions," said Reilly.

The police accident reconstruction crew was on the scene Sunday afternoon to investigate.
