Unemployment rate in N.B. remains below 10 per cent
Jobless rate unchanged at 9.7 per cent after 16 months in double-digits
The unemployment rate in New Brunswick was unchanged in December at 9.7 per cent.
Figures released Friday by Statistics Canada show there were 1,800 jobs created in the province in December, with 400 of those being full-time and 1,400 of the new jobs being part-time.
December marked the second month in a row the rate stood below the 10 per cent threshold after being higher than that level for 16 months.
Only Prince Edward Island, at 11.5 per cent, and Newfoundland and Labrador, at 10.8 per cent, have higher unemployment rates among the provinces. Nova Scotia's rate stood at 9.2 per cent.
Nationally, the unemployment rate climbed 0.3 per cent in December to 7.2 per cent.
