Train collides with pickup truck in Salisbury
Truck driver taken to hospital, RCMP investigating
RCMP are investigating after a CN Rail train collided with a pickup truck in the Village of Salisbury on Wednesday.
The male driver and one occupant of the half-ton made it out alive, said Const. Sébastien Pelchat, who was at the scene.
"We don't know why the vehicle was on the train track, but that's why the matter is still under investigation," he said.
"My partner left the hospital. The gentleman was transported and at this point, we don't know the extent of the injuries."
The westbound freight train hit the passenger side of the half-ton truck shortly after noon, said Pelchat.
Ross Mcleod, who is part of a construction crew working on the road that crosses the track, said the truck driver appeared to have a few minor cuts and bruises.
It was not clear why the truck stopped on the tracks, said Mcleod.
"He came to a stop on the other side of the tracks, then he started across the tracks for some reason. I don't know if the fella froze or what, he just stopped on the tracks," he said.
