A 19-year-old from Jardineville died Wednesday from injuries he sustained while climbing out of the window of a moving vehicle, say RCMP.

The teen was trying to get onto the roof of the vehicle on May 17 in Ford Mills, near Rexton, when he fell, Cpl. Daniel Melanson said in a statement.

He suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Moncton, where he later died.

Police say alcohol is believed to have been a factor.

More than one vehicle and several young adults were involved in the incident, said Cpl. Denis Haché of the Bouctouche RCMP.

"No other occupants of the vehicles were injured. He was a passenger," said Haché.

It's too early to say whether charges will be laid, he said.

"It's hard to say the exact intent … at this stage, but with grad season coming up, it's a true reminder to be safe and think about your plans before getting into a vehicle when you're consuming alcohol, that's for sure."

The young man's identity has not been released.

The investigation continues.
