Two University of New Brunswick students have been sent to hospital after an early Wednesday morning fire in Bathurst.

Dan Bedell, an official with the Canadian Red Cross, said the fire started in a duplex across from the UNB campus at about 4 a.m.

The duplex is used as a student residence in the northern city.

“Canadian Red Cross disaster volunteers arranged emergency lodging and food for the two students who escaped injury, and will follow up later with the two from the unit where the fire started,” according to a statement.

There is no word on the cause of the fire, according to the Red Cross.
