Kathleen Arsenault, 59, was found dead in her Saumarez home on March 5. (CBC)A 28-year-old man from Saumarez has been charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a body in the death of his mother.
Jecy Arseneault did not enter a plea in Tracadie provincial court on Thursday.
He was ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric evaluation and remains remanded in custody.
Kathleen Arseneault, 59, was found dead in her home on March 5.
Her body was discovered after a family member reported to police that she had failed to report to work.
The cause of death has not been released.
The accused was arrested without incident in Bathurst on Wednesday by the RCMP's major crime unit with the assistance of the Acadian Peninsula RCMP, Cpl. Chantal Farrah stated in a release.
He is scheduled to return to court on April 12 at 11 a.m.
Saumarez is located near Tracadie-Sheila on the Acadian Peninsula.
