Codiac Regional RCMP say no charges will be laid in the case of an injured puppy in Riverview.

Police received a complaint of alleged animal cruelty after the four-month-old Shepherd mix was dropped off last week at the Riverview Animal Hospital with two broken legs and fractured ribs.

"Although the dog did suffer broken bones and abrasions, the police have not been able to uncover any evidence that anyone deliberately caused those injuries," Const. Damien Thériault stated in a release.

"There is some indication that the dog may have wandered outside of the home through an unsecured door and possibly been struck by a vehicle," he said.

The investigation is concluded, said Thériault.

Meanwhile, the puppy, named Jackson, is recovering well.

He had surgery on a hip on Monday and may require more surgery to repair his other broken hind leg.

The Greater Moncton SPCA has raised more than $30,000 in donations from people across the country to pay for his medical expenses.

Any leftover money will be banked to pay for the medical expenses of other animals rescued by the SPCA, officials have said.

Once Jackson has recovered, he'll be adopted by a nurse he's bonded with at the clinic.
