One of the largest minor hockey tournaments in New Brunswick is taking place in Fredericton this week, bringing in hundreds of people along with economic spinoffs.
Jonathon Brown of the Fredericton Youth Hockey Association, says 64 teams are participating in the tournament.The week-long Capital Invitational brings in hundreds of people to the capital city over the March break week said Jonathon Brown of the Fredericton Youth Hockey Association.
"We have 64 teams," Brown said.
"Among those 64 teams, there's 130 games, so you can only imagine how many people it's bringing in to the city of Fredericton."
Tournaments and events in the city are a big boost for businesses in the city, said Brooks Gilks, who works at the Delta Hotel
Brooks Gilks, who works at the Delta Hotel, says tournaments are the hotel's bread and butter."It brings in large groups of people and they bring dollars with them, Gilks said.
"And we're more than happy to have in groups. They're our bread and butter. They facilitate reservations for us and that's what we live off."
The tournament runs until Sunday.
