A group that fights for seniors' rights is asking the province to investigate after an 85-year-old woman was evicted from a special care home in Moncton.

Larry Hughes and his wife are the legal guardians of the woman. In November she agreed to move into a home.

But two months later Hughes was told the woman had to leave because she was outspoken and aggressive.

"It's a bit of a surprise to find out that a senior in a sense can be evicted. Quite a surprise that it could in such a short time escalate to that degree," he said.

Hughes says the woman has been transferred to a hospital while they wait to see if they can find another home.

He said he's not blaming anybody, but he finds it stressful.

Cecile Cassista, head of the Coalition for Seniors and Nursing Home Residents' Rights, says there's no evidence the elderly woman was a threat to anybody.

She said she feels special care homes need to be more patient with seniors who are often under stress.

"You know what, if you're on medication, medication can do that. Medication can change your mood completely," Cassista said.

She said it takes time, more than two months, for seniors to adjust to a new situation.

Now, Cassista is writing to the minister in charge and asking for an investigation.
