Two trucks and two trailers were stolen from Caledonia Industrial Estates on Sunday, then another truck and trailer were stolen from the park on Monday. (Caledonia Industrial Estates)Codiac Regional RCMP are investigating after three trucks and three trailers were stolen from a Moncton industrial park between Sunday and Monday.
Police won't say what was in the vehicles, but two of the trucks and two of the trailers have since been recovered — empty — in Quebec.
Investigators have not yet established any link between the crimes, said Const. Damien Thériault.
"We are looking at video evidence. As well, we are waiting for forensic work to be done on the trucks that were recovered," he said.
Christmas merchandise lost
Meanwhile, transport companies say they're losing money and at least one store is short a shipment of Christmas merchandise.
Anne McShane, who owns a natural product store in Saint John, called the Feel Good Store, says she has been waiting for a shipment of the season's hottest gag gift — Zombie repellant soap.
"We had a couple of cases of it on order and all of a sudden I got a call from my supplier and she said that, 'I have bad news, the UPS truck that shipped this got stolen. So we have no soap for you,'" said McShane.
'It's a big loss. I have a small company, I've got five trucks, and when you lose one truck like that, you lose revenue every day.'—Rodney Stuart, transport truck owner
The soap, from out west, has been one of her biggest sellers this year, she said.
Rodney Stuart says he owns one of the stolen trucks that was used to steal the UPS trailer containing McShane's soap.
He says his driver parked the truck at East Coast International Trucks Inc. at the Caledonia Industrial Estates on Saturday night and when the two of them returned to pick it up, it was gone.
"They popped the lock right out so they knew it pops out easy," said Stuart. "They get inside, they rip the ignition apart and hotwire it, just like a car I reckon."
Stuart says the truck, which he bought used, is worth about $50,000. He's losing about $500 a day without it, he said.
5 businesses hit
"It's a big loss. I have a small company, I've got five trucks, and when you lose one truck like that, you lose revenue every day.
"And the cost if you do find it, you know, what damage was done to it? Plus I have a driver that's out of work until I do get it back."
Police say a truck and a trailer were stolen from two different locations at the industrial park on Sunday.
Later, a truck with a trailer was taken from another business in the park.
Then on Monday, a truck and a trailer were stolen from two different locations.
Four of the vehicles were recovered in Quebec — two in Sainte-Julie and two in Longueil.
