NB Power is warning its customers about several recent reports of telephone scams.

The utility says people have been calling customers, requesting billing information or attempting to sell a device they claim will help customers save money on their electricity bills.

But NB Power is not selling any devices and has not approved the sale of any type of device, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

"Customers should be cautious when receiving telephone calls or visits offering products or services or requesting financial information," the release states.

NB Power recommends anyone who is contacted by people making such claims should call their local police force, the RCMP, or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre to file a report.

If customers are unsure whether they are speaking to an NB Power employee, they can hang up and call the utility toll-free at 1-800-663-6272.
