Three St. Stephen-area teenagers are facing charges following an investigation into drug trafficking and drug use around high school property.

Two males, aged 17 and 16, and a 15-year-old female, were arrested Monday during the lunch hour at St. Stephen High School, RCMP Sgt. Bob MacKnight stated in a news release.

The investigation is continuing, but charges of trafficking marijuana and possession of marijuana are anticipated, he said.

Meanwhile, the three teens have been released into their parents' custody, said MacKnight.

The arrests stemmed from information RCMP received about drug trafficking and drug use around the school, he said.

"It's important to disrupt the drug trade influence on teens in our community as we know that drug use is the root cause of crime, leading to other types of criminal activity."
