Two men from Bouctouche have been sentenced after pleading guilty to various drug-related offences, including possession of methamphetamine.

George Joseph Cormier, 33, of Goguen Avenue, was sentenced to 18 months in jail and two years of probation on charges of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of hashish, and breach of an undertaking.

Roger Cormier, 30, of McLaughlin Street, received a two-year conditional sentence for possession of methamphetamine and breach of an undertaking.

Methamphetamine is a highly-addictive stimulant. It can cause many serious physical problems, including high blood pressure, which can lead to stroke, inflammation of the heart lining, hyperthermia and convulsions.

It can also produce psychotic symptoms that may last for months or years, even after a person stops taking the drug.

RCMP had raided the homes of both men twice in less than a year, RCMP Sgt. Jeff Johnston stated in a release.

On Feb. 15, police seized methamphetamine, marijuana, hashish and cash, he said.

Then, on June 15, officers seized methamphetamine and cash following a joint investigation by the District 5 RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and the RCMP South East Integrated Intelligence Unit.
