Oromocto RCMP and the Fredericton Police Force have been sharing information on what may be two attempted child-luring incidents last week, but there's no word yet on whether the cases are connected.

On Friday, an 11-year-old girl in Oromocto said she was walking behind Harold Peterson Middle School shortly before 3 p.m. when a man standing by a van called her over.

On Thursday, Fredericton police received reports of a man with a silver SUV following a student to Devon Middle School, taking pictures along the way and outside the school.

RCMP Cpl. Jean-Marc Paré says police want to see if the there's any link between the two cases.

"That will be determined on further investigation, I guess," he said.

Meanwhile, Anglophone West School District officials have asked parents and teachers to be extra vigilant.

Two separate incidents in one week has some people in the area shaken.

"It's very frightening," said Isabel Harper.

"Very worrisome because you don't know now a days who's hanging around the schools or what they're doing," agreed Clifford Nickerson.

Shawn Harding, who has four small children, calls it "disconcerting."

He has been going over the rules about strangers with his children at least once a week, he said.

"Especially once we hear the flare-ups of another vehicle around and stuff like that. So we always make sure to reiterate with them — don't talk to strangers and if you see anything weird, make sure you tell somebody."

One difference between the two incidents is the vehicles involved. In the Oromocto incident the van, which was still running and had the lights on, was black, while the vehicle in Fredericton was reported as being a silver SUV.

The girl in Oromocto did not go to the man, but rather went to the library and reported what happened. Police patrolled the area, but did not find the man or his van.

The suspect in the Oromocto incident is described as being Caucasian, possibly between the ages of 20 and 40, about five feet, eight inches tall, with a slim build. He was wearing a black hoodie at the time.
