The coach of the Moncton Wildcats is hoping a big trade will boost his team's chances of winning the Quebec Major Junior League's championship this season.

The Moncton Wildcats last won the QMJHL's President's Cup in 2010 and the team, which has struggled so far this year, is hoping for a strong season.

Defenceman Jonathan Narbonne is arriving in Moncton on Wednesday after being traded from the Shawinigan Cataractes, last season’s Memorial Cup champions.

Danny Flynn, the team’s coach and director of hockey operations, said Narbonne will not have a difficult time transitioning to his new team.

The defenceman will join three other former Cataractes who have recently been traded to Moncton.

“He's going to see some familiar faces when he walks in the room for sure, including his defence partner from last year,” he said.

“But you know it's amazing in hockey how after one or two days players can get comfortable on the ice and in the room and you look at how team Canada or anything comes together so quickly and he'll be welcomed here with open arms.”

After seven games this season, the Moncton Wildcats are currently in last place in the QMJHL’s Maritime division with a record of three wins and four losses.

Narbonne has played four seasons in the QMJHL.

Flynn traded defenceman Patrick Downe and three draft picks for Narbonne.

He said it's disappointing to trade Downe, who has been with the Wildcats for five years. He calls him a solid player and an outstanding young man.
