A business in northwestern New Brunswick is under investigation in connection with a large theft of maple syrup last month in Quebec.

Thieves stole up to $30 million worth of maple syrup from a warehouse, in St-Louis-de-Blandford, 160 kilometres northeast of Montreal, in late August.

Radio-Canada is reporting that officers from the RCMP and Sûreté du Québec executed a search warrant in Kedgwick on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The general manager of S.K. Export says the business had nothing to do with the maple syrup theft from the Quebec warehouse.

The Quebec warehouse held about 3.4 million litres of bulk maple syrup and is part of a global strategic reserve of maple syrup.

The syrup belonged to the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers.

Julienne Bossé-Desrosiers told Radio-Canada she has documents to prove S.K. Export bought its syrup directly from the producers.

Étienne St.-Pierre, the owner of the business, was brought in for police questioning.

A New Brunswick RCMP spokesperson said they are assisting the Sûreté du Québec with the investigation and are not commenting on the file.

Quebec police are also refusing to comment on the investigation.
