A 53-year-old man was arrested and released after RCMP officers seized more than 25,000 counterfeit DVDs from a home in McAdam, N.B. on Thursday.

Police said the DVDs were copies of movies, video games, and television shows.

Officers also seized computers, hard drives and cash.

Police said the man will likely face charges under the Copyright Act for making and selling counterfeit goods.

“Counterfeit goods, whether smuggled into the country or produced in Canada, pose a threat to our economic integrity and represent a financial loss to legitimate businesses," RCMP Cpl. Chantal Farrah said in a release.

Farrah said the fines attached to illegally making and selling counterfeit goods can be steep.
